Sequels . . .

I’ve had many inquiries as to why don’t I like sequels. Well, I won’t say that I hate them, but I’m not really fond of them. As I’ve told numerous readers, I don’t like to read them and I don’t like to write them! All of my books, even those few that fall into the murder mystery category, are laced with romance. And to me, the meat of the story is the budding relationship between the two main characters. We watch them as they spar with one another, or fight their attraction, or even vehemently deny the attraction. We follow them as they grow closer, as love blooms, as passion overrides any doubts and uncertainties. And we applaud at the end when they finally recognize the love between them and we hope for that happy-ever-after for the two characters we’ve grown attached to. To me, that’s the “meat” of the story . . . the newness of the relationship, where everything is fresh and vibrant and just pulsating with energy. What comes after that is anticlimactic to me and I don’t feel I could possibly do the characters justice by trying to tell a story about the rest of their life.

For the record, I don’t really consider In the Name of the Father to be a sequel to Hunter’s Way as it’s not solely about Tori and Sam. I wanted to introduce Casey O’Connor and get to know her before throwing her into a romance . . . which comes in the next book, Partners.

Everyone, please have a great weekend…..
