Thanks for the garden comments everyone! Amazing how the conversation can go to the gutter when talking about Wendy’s cucumbers! As always, welcome to any new GGG! And now, as promised, WINE……
On a hot summer day, nothing is better than a tall glass of ice cold sangria wine! I like mine loaded with fruit…as does Lee Foxx! But the great thing about sangria…there aren’t really any rules! Put as much or as little as you like. Here’s the recipe I use.
1 bottle of red wine (actually, I usually use 1 ½ ). I use a sweeter wine (Gamay Beaujolais)
2 cups of ginger ale (or about half a bottle)
1 cup spiced rum
2 shots of gin
1 cup brandy (the secret ingredient)
½ cup Triple Sec
strawberries
orange
lemon
lime
I use fresh strawberries but frozen will work as well. Leave them whole if using frozen, slice in half if using fresh and toss into the mixture. Wash the orange really well because you leave the rind on. Cut the orange into thin slices, then in half (half moon) and toss them into the mixture. Cut each lemon and lime in half and squeeze only the juice into the wine (try to keep the seeds out). Mix well. Let chill. (if you are a big lemon or lime fan, you can also slice them like the orange and toss into the wine) (you can use other fruit….raspberries, pineapples, kiwi, etc) If you don’t have the traditional sangria pitcher , use an iced tea pitcher or something like that.
Serve over ice. Fabulous with spicy Mexican food! And as Lee says…it’s got a kick!
Enjoy!
As a side note….check out Candace’s comments from yesterday late. She added some links to pictures of her new puppy. Very, very cute! Go take a look.
