Farewell…goodnight

But never goodbye. As most of you already know, “real life” has gotten in the way of the blog…or is it the other way around? Regardless, I have so many projects going on—at work, at home, and with my writing—that I had to cut back somewhere. Unfortunately, the blog was one of the things that was selected to go.
First, let me say that it was a wonderful experience and it was so much fun getting to know you guys and watching as you grew comfortable with one another and made this little blog into a family. I appreciate that so much. I know most of you will keep in touch with each other as you have made life-long friends here, which is amazing, considering we are spread all over the world, and time zones, yet we still keep in touch.
Secondly, I want to thank Judy, the HP, for keeping me in line and trying to keep the rest of you in the gutter! Back in September, when I told her of my time constraints, she offered to take over the management of the blog. I appreciate what she did for keeping it up a little longer. I know most of you received her email explaining why she wasn’t able to devote time to it any longer as well.
I hope you will continue to email me and let me know what is going on in your lives. I’ve enjoyed meeting each and every one of you. Because of that, I’ve dedicated No Strings to the GGGs. When the book comes out in Spring 2009, I hope you’ll enjoy the dedication and find the reference to “the gutter gals” in the book! You were a great inspiration to me!
Thank you all for your time that you’ve given the blog this past year. You are all wonderful people. I feel honored to know you.
Farewell…
THANK YOU Gerri for providing a wonderful forum for us all to meet! I have met some of the most wonderful women here at Gerri’s gutter and appreciate every one of them. Thanks also go to Judy for keeping us all in line. I will miss the daily bantering amongst the GGG’s but I know I will keep in touch with most of them so you will not be getting a goodbye from me!
Have a good day Gerri and GGG’s!
As you all know English is my second language and still I am not good at all at it, I would like to find words to describe what I am feeling right now but that’s impossible, then I will just say this … THANK YOU GERRI and I wish to all of you THE BEST, you will be forever in my heart!
Ana
One last GGG Group Hug!
Thanks Gerri for setting the blog up in the first place and encouraging us to join in. It has been a fantastic time and a lot of fun and we all have you to thank for this. As you know, you’ll never get rid of me and my problems!
Just a shame you didn’t keep it going until mid Jan because it would have been filled with the escapades of Peg and I. God only knows what trouble we’ll get up to in Jan!
Also, I’m adding my thanks to Judy, who’s very much in my thoughts at the moment. She’s certainly been a huge support to me the past few months and has done a great job keeping the blog going for Gerri and juggling her life as well.
You guys have all been the best and kept me laughing so much.
As for No Strings, Gerri, I certainly look forward to the dedication and reference, can’t wait. You’re the Best!
hey Gerri, GGG’s
A family is right and ive sat both here , at home and thanks to tecnology a lot of other places reading the blog,
ive laughed , cried and felt a warmth and a sense of comaraderie so thanks Gerri for the chance to meet such a lovely great supportive and warm group of women that i am now proud to call my friends.
and a thankyou to Judy for stepping into the breach and just for always being there
so all of the above said i cant say goodbye either
enjoy your day all
Thank you Gerri for giving us this wonderful place to meet, I am very sorry to see it go but understand your reasons. Take care of yourself and keep on writting!
Ally, I went there but keep getting re-directed back here
Alas, the day we have been dreading has arrived. Gerri, thank you for creating an environment where we could come, be ourselves, and just go a bit crazy at times. Thank you for being a part of the blog for as long as you could, and thank you for the fabulous stories you have written that brought us all together in the first place! I’ll continue to hit your site looking for the question/answers on your home page and just to get little updates when you do have a moment to update us! I look forward to the GGG dedication/reference!
Judy, thank you for being the high priestess and keeping the blog going despite the craziness of your own life! I hope all goes well for you today and that you are back home resting comfortably soon! GOOD VIBES AND WELL WISHES HEADED YOUR WAY!!!!
To the rest of you crazy lot, hopefully you are all on the mailing list that Judy maintained so we can keep in touch and hopefully keep the playground active with the help of Shannon and me! Thank you all for being such fun loving women with just enough naughty (some more than enough) to keep it lively! I hope to continue to hear about your lives!
OH! and can I just say, I saw there is a new book coming from Ms. Hill in late 2009 called the Scorpion… Being a scorpio, I can’t help but think that whether or not the “scorpion” in Gerri’s book is the “good guy” or “bad guy”, I like that fact that Scorps are in it!
i dont have much time but i want to say
Thank you Gerri for this great chance in metting so many ladies that have become very much my family so many have helped me in some many ways i’m proad to call myself a GGG even if is a baby.

Thank You Gerri for providing us this blog and therefore, the opportunity of meeting a varied and interesting group of women. The gutter and the women I met will always have an special place in my heart and I plan to keep in touch with most of them.
Thank you HP for keeping this forum open when Gerri couldn’t anymore and I wish you the best.
I hope to talk to most of you through Gerri’s Gutter Gals blog, but to those that will not participate in it, I wish you the best, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
BIG HUG
Gerri I will always remain your faithful fan. SARA
Oh, Gerri. Thanks much for everything. Cheers!
Although the blog is coming to an end, the lifelong friendships we made will continue. When I discovered the blog I felt like an archaeologist who found the most valuable finding ever. Now I know just how huge that treasure actually is. Thank you Gerri for providing the platform to us to explore our friendships and for giving us free reign on YOUR blog.
Judy be assured all your effort definitely did not go unnoticed, thank you for always being there for everyone.

Gerri and Gutter Girls:
Thank you all for enriching my life. I was not one of the original GGs, but when I found the blog in late July, it was the begining of some warm and unique friendships. For a 20th century grannie to have found some truly terrific gals from all over the world, well, all I can say is I am forever enriched by our meeting, be it cyber, email, or skype. Isn’t technology truly amazing???? I have enjoyed our conversations, and have been enlightened by many a subject….thank you all for the forum.
Gerri: good luck in lightening your load. I look forward to the books yet born. Do take care of yourself, and keep Diane close.
HPoN: What a super duper gal you are. Please hang up your SuperWoman wings for a little while, and concentrate on getting yourself well. Thank you for your efforts on our behalf. Please take care of yourself. I am sure Gerri needs your editorial comments. I wish you health, and abundance in the New Year.
GGs young and old,
here and there,
I take a bit of you
into my heart
forever to share.
I travel my road
wandering here and there,
I hear your voices
from the many continents
we share.
GGs young and old,
here and there,
let us rejoice,
our friendships to share.
Let them take flight,
forever….
from here.
Adieu my friends,
It has been wonderful, I wish you all happy, prosperous, and love filled futures.
Cheri
p.s.
A LITTLE NOTE TO DIANE–THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING GERRI TO TO TAKE SOME TIME AWAY FROM YOU GUYS TO SHARE SOME GREAT THOUGHTS ABOUT WHAT WENT ON IN YOUR LIVES. WE ALL HAVE HAD SOME GREAT LAUGHS WITH EACH MONTH THAT ROLLED AROUND. DIANE, ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF GERRI,GIVE HER ALL THE LOVE YOU GOT, AND ALWAYS REMEMBER TO DANCE.
LOVE, DIANNE AND PAT
Hi to everyone!
Well, I was NOT going to make my final post until I heard the “last” word from GERRI!!! And so now….it has arrived!
GERRI, GERRI, GERRI,
IF you ONLY knew…..
Let me say first and foremost, THANK YOU! And thank you to HP/Judy as well. And so let me just remind you of a few things:
One..Yours is the very first (and probably the LAST) blog I will ever get emotionally attached to.
Two..You were so very right when you said to me in the first email we shared, and I quote..”the woman on the blog are just a bunch of neat people becoming friends.” Wow, was that a understatment!!! Never in my life would I have imagined.
And Three…..(Sorry) “REAL” camping does NOT involve T.V.’s and LAPTOPS!!!! oh…and AIR CONDITIONING!!!!
So on a farwell note of my own. To all the people who have become such staples in my life (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!) I have let go of my saddness to the ending of the blog and hold tight to the thought and knowing life long friendships I have made here.
As for Wendy, well….no worries GERRI and HP I’ll take REALLY good care of her while she is visiting.
To EVERYONE….It truly has been a pleasure!!!
I have to add a final note and I can’t possibly leave the gutter without it being a gutter style comment…
Peg, I hope you warm your hands before you take REALLY good care of me! I think my spine will be tingling enough without cold hands!
To everyone else, I’ve had a fantastic few months with you all. Question is…Norma, how are you going to send us all to bed on this side of the pond now?!
And Anneroo, I keep telling you, it’s not Scorpios, it’s Capricorns that are the best! Right Peg!
Wendy, lets get it right. It’s Libras that are the best!
Here are the traditional Libra traits:
Diplomaitic and urbane
Romantic and charming
Easygoing and sociable
Idealistic and peaceable
Yup, that’s me!
As far as sending you off to sleep, just wait until you visit Peg. I will be a calling!
Seriously, you girls have all been fantastic to get to know. You GGG’s are the best!
morning GGG’S
NORMA well unfortunatey you left out the main deal
Scorpions make for the best lovers
right slyfox , Anneroo?, or should i be asking Pat (maybe not ha ha )
sorry WWWendy how rude of me
good morning woops afternoon to you
lol! Well Capricorns are the best kissers!
Hi Ally and Norma! So, you’re going to be a calling when I’m with Peg then? Ok, that might be wise because we have plan to get into lots of trouble! So, we need your steady hand to guide us and crack that whip!
Ally, seeing as how my beloved is a Scorpio I will have to agree with you on that point.
For old times sake , good morning/afternoon GGG’s!
Yes Wendy, after all someone has to keep you gals in line.
And no one does it better than you Norma.
How are you going to keep Judy and I in line though? We’re the terrible twos once we get together. She’s taught me nearly all i Know!
What is your itinerary going to be? Are you going to visit all of the GGG’s?
Actually that was suggested, that I just hire a car and visit you all! lol! I fly to SLC on 28th Dec and I’ll be booking a flight to fly to Peg on 30th Dec. Btw I’m looking for someone to provide me with that New Year kiss, so any offers….
Then back to SLC for a week probably, since I fly back from there.
Oh and I’m ensuring that the hotel in SLC has wifi, so that I can keep in touch on my travels!
Wendy, by car? That would take you a very long time!
Judy rules so I will not even try to keep her in line.
I’m sure Peg will manage to find someone to kiss you to ring in the New Year.
Yeah I’m more inclined to fly around the place, faster and probably cheaper!
Well that is going to be Peg’s mission, she has a few weeks to work on that one!
Ok, I’m about to get blocked and I need to book that hotel!
Oh and Norma…I had tomato and basil soup for lunch.
Norma may i congratulate you on your choice in partner then ha ha
hey WWWendy sorry i missed you went out at lunch to grab some air literally 30 litres worth lol
Thanks Ally! However, my Scorpio can’t use a paint sprayer.
Wendy, gasoline is now under $2 per gallon so it may be cheaper to drive.
Tomato and basil soup sounds good. My favorite salad has a bunch of cherry tomatoes, chopped up basil, fresh buffalo mozarella chees, and a olive oil and vinagrette dressing. Yummers!
Adri and Cheri, how nice to hear from you wonderful ladies!
Later GGG’s I am making a pastry run for the girls in the office. You know how it is with me and food.
It can’t be over!!! It feels like I just started getting to know you all. I really hope that we all keep in touch with each other…and I hope we still have a GGG convention, we would love to meet everyone in person. Don’t be strangers!
I do believe the traits of scorpios are:
Magnetic personality
Enigmatic
Loyal
Great lovers
Great listeners,very caring
But also practically bi-polar…
And yes, they all apply to me… especially number 4
Hello, all.
Hey gorgeous, how you doing? How was your trip?
Hiya, doing well. You all cheery?
Trip was fine. Probably ate too much
Yes, I’m all cheery. Been christmas shopping, decorated the house already, all but the tree.
Of course you ate too much on your trip, we in the restaurant business encourage it, “C’mon, treat yourself… you’re on holiday!” or if they’re on business, “Treat yourself mate, you’re away from home, gotta get your comfort somewhere… and after all, the company’s paying!”… I feel kinda ashamed right now…
Why’s that?
Why’s what?
Hey ALL!!!!! I have three words to say…
I
GOT
IT!!!!!!!!!
The book? Hehe, yay!
GAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! No fair! I want mine I want I want I want!
Shyfox, I meant the feeling ashamed part. I think I have it- the encouragement of eating too much? Fret not, it was fine. Mostly Chinese cuisine, so it wasn’t too bad. I just have to watch my pastries and not eat too many of those at once.
All these scorpios- so, number 4 is particularly true, huh?
OOH Shy, I’m all about food when traveling! Actually, DRINK and food… JT, welcome back! Shannon, the convention still sounds awesome to me! Norma, will you be the food coordinator? I think Peg and Wendy should be in charge of entertainment… and Judy should be the queen bee to oversee all… THen of course there is the guest of honor!
OK, lots of work, still sick, and wanting to crawl into bed as soon as possible…
Be well, be warm, and hopefully you get your books too!
I still feel ashamed tho, sometimes I do it because I can tell the person REALLY wants it but doesn’t feel that they should and I don’t see why they shouldn’t and want them to have a good time, but most often it’s because the company wants us to upsell, yuck, upselling, it makes me feel so dirty, forcing someone to order more than they can eat or afford just so the company makes more money, and SERIOUSLY, upselling on alcohol should be outlawed, is that responsible service of alcohol, I don’t think so.
Number 4?… I dunno, ask SP or an ex… or something…
Poor anneroo-woo-woo, hope you feel better soon!
Haha, well I’m not a scorpio. Far as I know, there’s just one of me here on this blog, though I was sorta born on a cusp. . .
You know, shyfox, most of that paragraph totally sounds like you could be talking about something else.
I meant MY SP or ex… And just what do I sound like I’m talking about in “most of that paragraph?” >:)
Foxy, must I dissect it for you?
“I can tell the person REALLY wants it but doesn’t feel that they should and I don’t see why they shouldn’t and want them to have a good time”
What could that possibly sound like, hmm? I have no idea.
Yes, I know you meant YOUR SP.
lol… and it makes me feel dirty… I knew what you were talking about but I really am just too shy to go down that route
Right.
Foxy, I knew you knew already. I was just teasing you, clearly.
How’s it that you have time today to play?
So, what’s your SP’s sign?
Gemini… nuff said
Ah, you like air signs?
To be honest, I’ve never been too much into the whole thing, what I like, is someone who is sweet and sensitive, with a good sense of humour, who is supportive, no matter what, someone who is good to talk to, and who likes to look after me as much as I like to look after them… last one’s not usually a problem being as I’m so cute and small an all.
Ooops, just re-read what I wrote… didn’t mean to sound vain, just meant… everyone likes to mother me you know? I’m just one of those little people with soft hair that people just permanently want to touch and wrap up in cotton wool…
Aww, didn’t sound vain. I know precisely what you meant.
Foxy, I think you’re going to get me into trouble…
Why am I gonna get you into trouble?
*sigh*
What’s cotton wool?
Cotton wool… it’s, well, balls of cotton really… um, you know when you crazy americans put peroxide on cuts? (Are you insane do you know how much that hurts?!?!?! WHY?!?!? Why would you do that?! Just use antiseptic cream for the love of…!) You put the peroxide on a ball of cotton wool… I think, if my memory serves correctly.
Hurts good. Haha, just kidding.
So, people want to wrap you up in cotton balls?
lol, it’s a saying… it just kinda means they want to preotect you form EVERYTHING, like an over protective mother who doesn’t want anyhting EVER to happen to her child. Someone wants to “wrap you up in cotton wool” means they don’t ever want you to get hurt by anything, words, illness, a smack round the head with a plank… they just want you always to be cozy and happy… you get it?
Yes, got it.
Why? Cause makes me want to pet your hair.
Opps. gotta run. Bye!
That’s not gonna get you in trouble sweetheart, everyone wants to and does pet my hair… and my back and my arms and my face… or just plain stand there for ten minutes holding me, sometimes it really can hold me back, although I’ve learned to still be able to perform certain functions regardless.
Where’d you go?
Sorry, had to leave for lunch. Back now but you’re probably out.
Why would I be out? What did you have for lunch?
I ate at a Chinese buffett. There is one close to where I work. Had some soup, noodles, vegetables, fruit. So, what are you up to? Are you off?
Yes honey, I’m off, there’s no chance I’d be here at this time is I wasn’t. I love chinese all you can eat, there’s are really nice one in the city centre here, I always eat too much there. Wish I could eat out on my lunch break, all we ever have for staff dinner is chips, chips and more chips (fries) I’m really ruined for chips, if I go out to eat now and something comes with chips I’m always one of those annoying people who has to ask if it can come with something other than chips.
What am I up to? Chatting with you, I’ve been looking forward to it all week.
Aww, that’s sweet of you.
I figured you were off, too. Sorry I had to leave earlier.
So, work feeds you french fries only? Bah, what kind of meal is that? Poor little workers with their chips and nothing to go with?
There’s usually either fried eggs or bacon to go with, but my favourite is when they have baked beans. To be honest though, it’s not always chips, if they have something going out of date we have that, and that can be anything off the menu, best days are when they put something out which has mushrooms or nuts in it, I’m allergic to both, so then they do me some chicken pesto rigattoni, my favourite… like I said, everyone wants to mother me, and to clarify, our pesto is nut free… but mostly it’s chips.
Oh, poor thing. I know you’ve already said before that you can’t have nuts and mushrooms, but that’s too bad. Is it the kind of allergy where you get all swollen-like and have to go to the hospital? I just try to avoid shrimp because I don’t feel well if I eat it and can itchy, but so far now hospital trips for me, thank goodness. Your favorite dish sounds delicious.
Honestly, the staff food sounds like it’s a lot of fried food. I guess it’s quick for them to make, but not the healthiest.
lol, don’t say poor thing, like I said, the others get left overs going out of date and i get my favourite dish! You’re right to be careful with your shrimp allergy, right now it may just make you feel bad and give you a bit of a rash but it can develop into something more serious. My mushroom allergy is just sickness and…. but my nut allergy sends me into anaphalactic shock, that’s where your airway swells up and you can’t breath, I carry an epipen (adrenalin shot) with me for it but I have never been in hospital so far with it, I realised I was developing an allergy and saw a doctor before it got too serious. So like I said, you’re right to be cautious with your shrimp allergy, because as with me, these things develop.
The chicken pesto rigattoni is to die for, chunks of freshly grilled chicken in a creamy pesto sauce with rigattoni and rocket leaves on top, I couldn’t cook it myself, our chefs are the best, not to mention I can’t find nut free pesto in the stores here. Do you go to the chinese every day?
Rocket leaves?
The staff food is quick and cheap, when whitbread took over our hotel they wanted to stop staff food, but the GM demanded we still do it, we’ve always had staff food, there’s no where around to eat out and there’s no where for us to keep or heat up our own food so they said we could keep it but gave us a ridiculously low budget for it.
No, I don’t go to Chinese every day. I actually had a lunch packed today but went out to lunch because my grandmother wanted to see me (she’s 87). Otherwise I would have had a mixed greens salad with some shredded chicken breast and artichoke hearts, and a little bit of potatoe salad.
Rocket is kinda like a kind of lettuce, the leaves look sort of like long, soft and thin holly leaves, and it has a slightly sharp taste.
Whitbread doesn’t sound all that nice, but I guess they are more concerned about the bottom line. Nice for the GM to fight for you guys. Only makes sense to feed you all if things are as you say. After all, can’t have a bunch of starving, cranky employees running an inn.
Ah, rocket = Arugula.
I thought you didn’t live near your family anymore, it’s nice that you met your grandmother for lunch though, I had a standing lunch date with my grandmother every wednesday when I went home over the summer when I was at university. Did you have a nice time? Is she still full of little pearls of wisdom, or has she got to the stage where she’s just kinda a bit loopy and full of fun stories about when she was young or how she can’t work these silly modern tvs?
I don’t like whitbread, they’re far too worried about the bottom line and filling a hotel by selling cheap rooms without being able to provide the staff to do so and not thinking enough about the guest for me. But, with a GM like ours, and all the management coming from before we were whitbread, you think we run our hotel anything like whitbread wants?
Yes, rocket = arugula
You totally googled that
Grandmother is totally not loopy. In fact, she’s probably the sharpest knife in the drawer. Mostly Grandmother just tattles to me about my aunt, with whom she lives. I’m sort of on call for lunch once or twice a week. As for the tv stuff, she complains about the satellite not working for her programming, so I guess that doesn’t count, does it?
Shyfox, I did get the feeling that you thought I lived away from family, but most are close by, though distance can be measured in terms of more than just geography.
Foxy, honey, I work in a library. T’is my job to find the answer.
Hi Girls. I thought the blog was already closed. Nice surprise still around.
Shy you remind me of my employee cafeteria at the hotel. They always had fried food and rice and beans. I always thought they cook for construction workers. It used to be good but when Wyndham purchased us, food quality went downhill
JT, you ok? You wanna talk about it?
SS, I know, those big chains. I have no idea why they think making more money should be a priority.
Yes, at some point, we’ll need to move to the other one.
Yes, foxy, I fine. I just don’t particularly like everyone. Perhaps that makes me not too nice; must be my being too picky.
lol, yes, staff food does always seem like it’s cooked for construction workers, pretty much everyday I have to ask the chefs, “hey guys, would it be ok if I have a bit of green?”. It’s not like we had steak everyday when it was holiday inn, but we at least had our meat, pots and two veg, you know, but apparently that is too expensive for “largest chain of hotels in the uk let’s take over the world” whitbread.
JT are you saying that because of me?
lol, they’re just trying to squeeze out the most money they can. I hope they didn’t cut corners on aspects of the guest experience.
SS, am I saying what?
JT, you can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family, trust me, most of my family are too two faced and self absorbed for me, I’m not proud that I feel that way about my family, but I still love them because… they’re my family, but it’s not easy to spend time with them, you just have to rise above it, but I’m certainly not gonna judge you if you have “issues” with your family, you know I have mine, and knowing you, I’d say any problems are more likely on their side than yours, you’re too sweet, and I’ll bet, like me, you let them push you around.
Aww, Shyfox, why you always telling me I’m sweet? *blushing*
JT, when you said: “just don’t particularly like everyone”, you are talking about family, right? I hate that I have a very small family, but sometimes I think that I should thank God, because my family does not accept what I am and avoid the conversation any possible way
Because you are
Shy, agree with everything you just said.
I’m sorry SS, do you have a partner you’d like to have with you there but can’t? My siblings all accept the way I am, but my parents… it’s not an open subject, although they love SP and always expect her when I go home, it’s kinda wierd that we can’t interact with each other the way my brother and sisters can with their partners, and it makes conversation wierd because we can’t say things “just the way they are”, we have to bend it so that it’s not lying but it’s not obvious that we’re a couple… But Kays family is great, they all totally accept it and treat me completely as a full member of the family.
Shy, flattery will get you everywhere.
SS, I was not talking about YOU. Aww, so sorry if it seemed that way.
Seriously, though, I pretty much agree with you, shyfox.
Well… it’s sad, but let’s not all feel sorry for ourselves now, I for one have some wonderful friends where I live, and they are plenty much like family, and we all have each other on here. Like I said, we’ve just got to rise above it and know that we’re being the best people we can be.
SS, you miss being a part of all those christmas parties in the hotel? I love ‘em, the atmosphere is always so great, who gets to have that many chrimbo parites a year huh?
JT, I am sorry. Remember, English is not my first language & I did not understand.
Shy, I do not have a partner now, but I had one for many yrs & my brothers (I have 2) have never seen me with a man, and it is pretty obvious that I am a lesbian, but we do not touch that issue and I do not hide it, if they ask me I will say yes I am, but everytime I bring the issue they avoid it like if it is going to burn them.
No wallowing here. I probably have an unusual prespective when it comes to family, anyway.
Guys, when are we moving over to the other blog? Anyone know?
I’m sorry SS, I guess I’m lucky that my siblings accept it the way they do, although, to be honest, my brother would rather stay off the subject, my little sister is the coolest with it, unfortunately, you know what guys are like, if they weren’t related to you they’d be all over it, but not in a good way, maybe that’s why when they are related to you, they find it hard to deal with because to them it’s not something for the home it’s something, to put it a polite way, to be naughty with, they don’t see the real side, the love and commitment, they just see the way they play with it, it sounds horrid, but that’s why they feel guilty, and that’s why they can’t deal… I’m sorry, I hope I haven’t offended you, but it’s something I’ve thought about a lot being as my brother is the only one who is wierd about it out of my siblings.
SS, what is your first language?
JT, I thought we moved over yesterday, but then I found you all here today.
Ah, the yucky guy stuff.
Anneroo and I are the only ones who posted there today
JT my first language is Spanish.
Are you having problems with this blog? I am.
I think they are probably closing it as we post. I am SAD
You guys want a beer, carling alright?
I’m not having any problems with the blog
Yeah, I’m just here wondering if we are supposed to run along without Gerri taking the thing down completely or what, you know?
Could have used you in the restaurant yesterday SS, had two spanish guys who didn’t speak a word of english, and I don’t speak a word of spanish. I ended up just ordering them steak, they seemed happy enough but it’s a shame they couldn’t choose themselves.
My family avoids the issue, they have never see me with a man and I do not hide the fact that I am a lesbian, I think it is pretty obvious what I am. And I know deep inside, they know, but they prefer not to talk about it. I have 2 brothers younger than me and they are both very “machistas”.
Well, if you guys just wanna go on over to the other blog just say the word and I’ll meet you over there
JT, did I thank you for those websites? I have used one of them before, but, lol, can’t play right now, all my caluses fell off in egypt and now I have HUGE blisters on all my finger… it hurts… although I can play american pie now
I am the Treasurer for my building Board of Director and we have a meeting in the next 30 min. I better go downstair. I will see you around here or in the other blog.
Have sweet dreams.
OK, I know malaka means wanker in greek, does machista mean the same in spanish?
Shyfox, “machista” means male chauvinist
Aww, foxy, de nada. I’m sorry about your hands. I hadn’t played in months cause my old guitar needed some fretwork done, which I haven’t gotten to yet. I bought a new guitar off ebay lately so I’ll be playing again. The first day back was a little painful, but it wasn’t too bad. I’ve never had blisters that I can remember.
Adios, SS. Via con Dios.
Ah, masogenistic, I’m sorry, I hope this doesn’t sound ignorant, but from what I know of the southern european cultures, that’s pretty much normal, although they usually do know how to treat a lady with respect
OMG! I forgot to ask about your new guitar! how is it? What is it? Have I admitted to you yet that I do have a dreadnought, I was just too stupid to know it. I found a shop in town today and nearly forgot all about christmas shopping, it’s great, all about guitars, everything you could ever dream of, and some beautiful guitars to boot, but I gotta ask, what’s the benefit of a twelve string guitar?
Ah, “American Pie,” I did a project on that song in high school. Along the lines of American Pie taught American history of the 60s and 70s. I quite like that song.
Twelve strings, it depends on how you have it tuned, but for the most part, the added strings give more depth of sound and greater volume. Usually you can tune 6 standard and 6 strings an octave lower. I actually took a look at your Vintage, 400, is it? and saw it was a dread, but figured maybe you had a folk body.
I bought a used Alvarez Masterworks MD70 with electronics. It is an all solid wood dread, with Western cedar top and Indian rosewood b/s. I brought it to a buddy who plays that I had gone instrument shopping with and he loved it. I guess it’s a keeper. Comfortable neck and nice action. Haven’t played that much on account of travel but will be playing more before Christmas.
Forgot to also mention a 12-string has more tension on the neck and so can have greater risk of neck problems and warping.
Quite like that song?! I love that song! Although I have a feeling you have a greater understanding of the words than me, well that’s what’s given me blisters, I was very determined to learn it and it uses D/F# which I haven’t used before so it’s been a bit of a challenge. There was a great book in that shop I found, fingerpicking the blues, which I think I’ll ask for for christmas.
Quite like = love a lot. I wonder if we play it the same way. Does it start off with a G chord? Sounds like your arrangement might differ from one that I’ve played. Do you play D/F# with your thumb crossing over?
Do you want to move to the other blog? I’m feeling guilty.
Why are you feeling guilty?
Yeah, mine starts with a G chord, but I don’t play the D/F# with my thumb crossing over… I didn’t even know you could. Are you self taught?
Guilty cause I sorta feel like we should be moving on to the other place since Gerri has already said her farewell.
I play the D/F# like a standard D chord with the 3 fingers on the upper 3 strings and move my thumb up onto the fingerboard and play the F# note.
I had some brief lessons years ago, but it’s been my own slow going from there.
lol, I just got that, thinking about it after you said, just tried it, my fingers still hurt but I also think maybe my hands are too small, but will try it again once my fingers are better, thanks for the tip.
Do you wanna move over?
Some one needs to break it in, right?
OK, see you over there in a sec, if you don’t turn up I’ll look for you again over here.
Good bye gerri, thank you for everything, especially the good friends I’ve made. And thank you Judy for keeping the blog running a while. Take care of yourselves both, I’ll always be a fan, lots of love to you.
Shyfox signing out.

Well. Thanks so so much Gerri for having this blog. I am very sad because I found it so late but I absolutely loved it here.
Thanks to all who made me feel so welcome even though I was not here often.
